Reflection

I woke up this morning humming a song that made me think a bit about the last few years of my life. I found the song on my iPod, (one of the few country songs on there) and let it play a couple times. Funny how we wish for something more or different, but we have it all right in front of us the whole time, it just may be in a different form than we may otherwise recognize or picture.
Since I am at a sort of "crossroads" in my life, and due (well past due actually!) to bring a precious new baby into the world, I am grateful that I have had time to enjoy life's adventures and challenges on my own and with Ben. I know that I will miss it, but I don't think I will ever look back because I feel like we have lived that "life" to its fullest.
So, there are my thoughts for the day. Enjoy one of the few cow-ntry (as Ben refers to it) songs that made it to my iPod and cry like a baby - cause thas't what I did. (Click on the blog title: Reflection to watch/listen to the song.)

You're Gonna Miss This
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vG9XfJxMY8A)
She was staring out the window of their SUV
Complaining, saying, "I can't wait to turn 18."
She said, "I'll make my own money and I'll make my own rules."
Momma put the car in park out there in front of the school,
And she kissed her head and said I was just like you.
But you're gonna miss this,
You're gonna want this back.
You're gonna wish these days,
Hadn't gone by so fast.
These are some good times,
So take a good look around.
You may not know it now, but you're gonna miss this.

A few years later, she's a brand new bride,
In her one bedroom apartment and her daddy stops by.
He tells her its a nice place,
She says, "It'll do for now."
Starts talking about babies and buying a house.
Daddy shakes his head and says, "Baby just slow down."
Cause you're gonna miss this.
You're gonna want this back.
You're gonna wish these days,
Hadn't gone by so fast.
These are some good times,
So take a good look around.
You may not know it now, but you're gonna miss this.

Five years later there's a plumber,
He's working on the water heater.
Dogs barking, phone's ringing, one kid's crying, one kid's screaming.
She keeps apologizing, but he says, "They don't bother me. I've got two babies of my own; one's 36, one's 23."
And it's hard to believe,
But you're gonna miss this.
You're gonna want this back.
You're gonna wish these days,
Hadn't gone by so fast.
These are some good times,
So take a good look around.
You may not know it now, but you're gonna miss this.
You're gonna miss this.

Megan! how awesome that you are taking time to reflect on the past few years of your life. It really does fly by. I can't even remember Charlie and I before kids. Good on ya! I'm checking your blog daily for a baby announcement! And we'll be down next weekend, so you better have had her by then so I can meet the cute ninja expert. Good luck!

every time I see a post from you my heart skips a beat. Thank you for that song. Berk wasn't nearly as touched as I was. I even cried a little. The last verse got to me. It was exactly my life. I have one kid screaming the other crying and I'm trying to apologize to someone because the house is messy. The last few weeks since christmas I have been thinking a lot about how fast time flies and how much I don't like it. I hope I can try to be in the moment more this year. THanks again megan. WE are leaving sunday morning for disneyland and will be back wed. night. So if you don't have a baby in the next 2 days, I will have to come visit you when I get back. I love you!!! Best wishes for you, ben, and your baby.

Oh, good. I'm going to add you to our list as well.

Good luck with the baby...you look fantastic, by-the-way! Seriously, fantastic.

And I hope you don't get any comments like, "No baby yet?!" I know how that feels since Sophie was 8 days overdue. Hang in there and we'll keep checking in on your blog for news.

Thanks for sharing! We were married 5.5 years before our first and even though we struggled to get prego with #1, I wouldn't trade those years for anything. We too lived "that life" to the fullest and grew so strong as a couple. Best wishes with your greatest adventure to come!
