Cat and Mouse

Our Backyard, Oregon
The 'Cat' and the 'Mice"
The cat is the old piece of yard decor that is likely a pig.
The mice are the little rocks Maria has place in the holes on the tree stump.
Maria and the Cat
I love this picture.
It is magical to me because it shows Maria totally enthralled in her pretend life as a princess with her cat.
Seems to depict her (and her games of pretending) quite accurately.
To remember: Maria asked me if I wanted to go outside and play Cat and Mouse.  I said sure, just thinking it was some silly game of chasing each other around.  Come to find out, over the last couple weeks Maria has been playing with these said Cat and Mouse in the backyard.
I am impressed with this girl's imagination!  Usually it has to do with princesses and princes, or animals (she assigns us an 'animal' name...Mr. Bird, Little or Baby Bird, Mr. Caterpillar, Momma Dog, Puppy, Princess or Miss Butterfly and the list goes on), or mommy and baby/family, or doctor (yep, already playing that game - medical stuff is a common topic at our house, so it doesn't surprise me one bit).
So ya, back to the Cat and the Mouse.  We ran and hid from the cat (as though he might chase after us). We situated the mice in their holes.  Maria carried and sang and talked to the pig (Cat).  And then, after all of the outdoor stuff, Maria brought that mossy pig (aka Cat) in for dinner.  He was sent out, back to the mouse house log.
